Exmouth Music Centre
The Exmouth Music Centre offers a variety of instrumental tuition to youngsters: Wider Opportunities Club - Training Band - Concert Band and Private Tuition. The Concert Band is also open to adults who may wish to further their musical knowledge and develop their ensemble skills.
The centre is run by Steve Grant and Pete Manfield, both of whom are experienced and respected musicians who as well as performing regularly, provide specialist instrumental tuition in Exmouth and its surrounding areas.
Both Steve and Pete gained their musical expertise as military musicians whilst serving for Her Majesty The Queen. Since retiring from HM Royal Marine Band Service, Steve has been providing specialist woodwind tuition to people of all ages as well as directing a variety of ensembles including The Exmouth Town Concert Band and The Devon Youth Wind Orchestra. After leaving the band of HM Mounted Lifeguards, Pete continued his musical career by serving in The Devon and Dorset’s Band, and is currently the Band Sergeant Major of the Salamanca Band of the 6 Rifles. As well as teaching brass and bass guitar, Pete is the assistant conductor of The Devon Youth Brass Band and also regularly performs with local band “Wired” www.wiredband.co.uk
The Music Centre which began on 6th May 2011 is based at Withycombe Raleigh Primary School on Thursdays 4.15pm - 5.15 and Friday between 4.15pm and 6.30pm. It aims to support young musicians between the ages of 8-18 to develop their musical ensemble skills, and will also provide regular performance opportunities. All young wind musicians of Grade 2 standard or above are welcome. For further information please contact us. Adults are also welcome to the Training and Concert Bands.
The Wider Opportunities Club has proved to be very successful starting young musicians off on their chosen instrument, many of who have now moved on to the newly formed Training Band. The aim of these groups is to equip young musicians with a sound musical knowledge to help them progress towards the Training Band and on to the Concert Band.
There will also be advise available on Tuition when Wider Opportunities has been completed.
